We teach owners to train their dogs using only kind, fair and effective methods. Although classes work towards various awards they are not the ultimate aim and are merely incorporated as a 'bench mark' and motivator/reward to indicate the progress made. The ultimate aim is to educate handlers so that they have the knowledge, skills and understanding to enable them to train their dog, be aware of the dog's needs and their responsibilities as an owner. This way both should enjoy a happy life together....back
In order to make it simpler for Members to find out what is required for the various Kennel Club Good Citizens Award tests the information is now available direct from our web site. Visit the resources page and you will find the three stages, Bronze Silver and Gold. Then there is the essential reading of Responsibility & Care requirements plus the Canine code. Once displayed you can print or download your own copy.
We endeavour to keep Instructors the same for the duration of a course whenever possible. Instructors may rotate for Puppy Classes at the end of each 7 week course. Please see the separate Puppy section for details of these courses.
KCGCDS Awards must be achieved in order - Bronze, Silver, Gold. It is not a requirement to have completed KC Puppy Foundation.
All handlers are required to complete an application form, liability form, hold a current vaccination certificate and be a member of GVDTC (membership covers handlers and dogs on Club insurance).

Classes are at the GVDTC Ground for Winter 2017/18. There is a designated, secure area with some cover. Please note that Puppy course classes are at Kingstone Village Hall (see the Puppies tab)
Everyone participating in classes is required to be a member of GVDTC, which provides cover on club insurance and are also required to sign a liability form. New class members are required to complete a Class Application Form.
All dogs are required to have proof of up to date vaccination. Correct identification (with owners name & address on) tag or collar is required by Law.
Micro chipping is now also required by Law.
All dogs with 'issues' will be asked to undergo an assessment prior to starting a class. This is in the interest of everyone concerned and allows either suitable placement in a class, one-to-one being offered or the expertise of our Behaviour Counsellor being suggested.
ONLY KIND, FAIR AND EFFECTIVE METHODS OF TRAINING ARE USED AT GVDTC. THE USE OF ANY PUNITIVE EQUIPMENT OR METHODS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.FOR EXAMPLE - NO CHECK CHAINS, NO SHOUTING AT OR HITTING OF DOGS. DOGS SHOULD REMAIN ON LEADS AT ALL TIMES UNLESS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE CLASS INSTRUCTOR.
GVDTC is a Kennel Club registered club and we adhere to the KCAI and the APDT Codes of Practice. Further details can be found on their websites.
